  3. Professor Steven Specht Elevated to Emeritus Status
Steven Specht

Individuals are awarded emeritus or emerita status at the time of their retirement in recognition of distinguished academic careers in faculty or administrative positions.

The Utica University Board of Trustees conferred emeritus status upon Steven Specht, distinguished professor of psychology, during its May 7 meeting.

Dr. Specht joined the University’s faculty in 1999 after previously holding a tenured position at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. He achieved full professor status in 2008, and earned the rank of distinguished professor in 2021. He previously taught as a visiting professor at Cornell University and the State University of New York College at Oswego.

He has an extensive publication and presentation record, which includes numerous peer-reviewed articles and invited lectures and presentations. As well, he is an award-winning collage artist, and has several of his pieces on display on campus and elsewhere in the community.

Individuals are awarded emeritus or emerita status at the time of their retirement in recognition of distinguished academic careers in faculty or administrative positions. To be eligible for emeritus professor status, faculty must be recommended to the Board of Trustees by the Faculty Affairs Committee and the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Among the considerations for selection are length and excellence of service, quality of teaching and research or performance in the administrative position, and overall contribution to the University community.
